November 13, 2007

As most of you know, my dad was on a walk a few weeks ago when he suffered a massive heart attack. He died instantly. You can never be ready to lose your dad, but we all felt like we couldn't have been more unready. We had just had dinner the night before and all was normal. Dad was in good health and good spirits, chasing Kai around on the floor, teasing my boys and laughing with Brian about how it was a good thing Jan made so many chocolate covered peanuts or they would have to fight for them. He was so alive, it is so hard for us to realize we will never see him again on this earth. I love my dad so completely, he was our closest friend, our biggest fan, the person that was always there for us, he was the one that loved to stir the pot--he was such an instigator! We're all still dealing with a loss and grief unlike anything I've ever experienced. I just pray my friends don't have to go through this for another 15-20 years because it is just too soon to lose your dad. He was the light of our family...we miss him so much already. Someday we will all be able to sit around and tell Big Guy stories that bring us laughter and happiness, but right now we just have to go through the grief process. He was something else, I couldn't have asked for a better dad.

Oh Cami, as I sit here with tears rolling down my cheeks I can not fathom the pain that you are feeling from your loss. No one should have to go through this and it hurts me to know how much you are hurting. Your dad was an amazing person who seemed to touch every life he came across. The two of you had a bond like no other father-daughter I've ever seen. I've never seen a father more connected to his daughter or a grandpa more proud and more supportive of his grandsons. I know that you are who you are because of the wonderful relationship you and your father shared. Thank you for sharing Big Guy with the rest of us. He was a wonderful example of what a friend, parent, and grandparent should be. I'm praying for you and love you!
